Press Release

Mrs. is proud to present Relay, a two-person exhibition featuring new work by Kerri Ammirata and Emily Davidson.  Both artists engage with landscape as a site of introspection—one reaching outward toward the celestial, the other turning inward to the everyday. Though their vantage points differ—Ammirata working from the macrocosm of space and Davidson from the minutiae of the urban present—they share a sensibility rooted in painterly tradition and a deep psychological inquiry.

Emily Davidson’s work begins in observation, drawing from the fleeting images encountered in her daily life—seen through windows, on signs, in advertisements. Each composition is painted twice, forming “twin” paintings that echo her experience as a mother of identical twins. In East of Eden and West of Eden, dozens of “EDEN”s—gathered from churches, beauty supply stores, and health food shops throughout the New York metro area—stack together in mirrored collages. These works nod to a biblical paradise, yet render it as something elusive: a word repeated until emptied of certainty. Other paintings reimagine urban fragments as improbable landscapes—such as the hand of the UTZ girl plunging into the distant void of her chip bag, a playful horizon conjured from commercial detritus.

Kerri Ammirata looks skyward, using celestial forms to ground emotional states. Returning to oil on wood, she renders cosmic bodies—suns, moons, and planets—as meditative fields of color and gesture. Her works invite the viewer into an intimate, spiritual cosmos. In Radiate, the architecture of a proton radiation room becomes a luminous, abstract sanctuary—transforming the clinical setting of her breast cancer treatment into a space of healing and transcendence. Hope & Grief grapples with the dualities of living through chemotherapy, its softly glowing orbs offer both light and shadow, joy and sorrow. Ammirata’s paintings channel sacred geometry and the energy of mandalas, becoming devotional acts—prayers inscribed through color, form, and touch.

Together, Ammirata and Davidson offer a call-and-response—trading visions of earth and sky, intimacy and expanse. In Relay, the landscape becomes a shared language, through which memory, perception, and emotion pass from one hand to another.
